A recent poll of 26 countries conducted by Ipsos Global Public Affairs for Reuters found that 67% of those surveyed used English on a daily basis. For most of those people, English was not their native tongue.

The Coronavirus pandemic has accelerated this change, with more and more employees working online from home.

Instead, millions are achieving their goals through online-learning. The British Council estimates that there were over 1.5 billion people learning English in 2021. 22% of those were studying exclusively online, and that number is rising all the time.
